Drink Plenty of Fluids

Keeping yourself hydrated after a night out is one of the most important things to remember the next morning. After splurging on alcohol, your body becomes dehydrated. 

Drinking water, Gatorade (or similar electrolyte replenishing drinks), juices, smoothies, will keep you hydrated as well as make you feel better. There’s nothing quite like waking up after having too much to drink and feeling awful from not having enough fluids in your system. I always felt like death after a night out.

This also works for overeating or eating too many greasy, but delicious foods. Drinking water will help you flush your system. While you don’t want to overload with water (yes, a water overdose is a real thing) it can help you naturally with the digestion process.

Eat Something Full of Fruits and Veg

If you’re nursing a hangover, getting some good vitamins and minerals in your body is always a good idea. You’re not only dehydrated, but I doubt the bar food you ate made things better. While it’s always good to eat while you’re drinking, most things we eat aren’t always the healthiest. I don’t know about you guys, but my go-to’s when drinking were chicken tenders, fries, or something else that came from the grill. Delicious at the time, but not so good for your body the next day.

Take it Easy

I don’t know about you, but when I feel like garbage, the last thing I want to do is move. Even non-alcohol related issues. If you’re nursing a hangover or if you’re overstuffed with food, take it easy. Relax, maybe take a nap, or spend all day in bed. Sure, it’s not the most productive way to spend your day, but it will help your body heal.

Running around or being active when you’re nauseous, overstuffed or just feel like crap isn’t going to end well. So, sit back, relax, put on some Netflix or sports game, and just cater to your body. You made a mess of it, so the best thing you can do is to help it get better.

Take a Shower

This may seem a bit counter productive if you’re just laying in bed all day, but one thing I’ve noticed is I feel a lot better after I take a shower. This goes for hangovers and general sickness. If you were out late the night before, drinking or outside at a bbq, you might want to wash away some of the residue of your partying.

The warm/hot water will be a comfort, also helping improve circulation, loosening up any tense muscles you may have, and washing away the physical evidence of anything you may have done is also a bit therapeutic. Have a bad night? Maybe say something you shouldn’t have? Have a drink spill on you? Watch all of those worries go down the drain along with the soap bubbles.

TL;DR

  • Drink water. You’re severely dehydrated from all that alcohol you’ve had. Hydrate up!
  • Eat something full of fruit, veg, and/or protein. Alcohol isn’t an approved food group. Put something green in your body to help counteract that.
  • Take it easy. You probably won’t want to do much anyway, but still, don’t go running a marathon.
  • Take a shower. Wash away all the physical grime and all the regrets.
