Day 3: Buy/Create Yourself a Thoughtful Gift
So you’re on to Day 3 of this self care trip, now you’re going to either by or gift yourself something thoughtful. I don’t mean “Ohh! I could totally use this new eye shadow pallet” or “I really like that dress I saw on Instagram”. I mean something that you can cherish. Something that means a lot to you.
I’m going to list a few things you can buy or create for yourself as a self care gift.
Self Care Box
This is something I came across recently in another blog post: How to Make a Self Care Box. This is such an incredibly simple thing that I never thought of! You can grab a box of any size and put various things in it for a day when you need the most self care. They break down the items into
- Things that you need
- Things that soothe you
- Things that take your mind off everything
You can fill up those categories however you want or you can follow the list of things Emily Aagaard puts in the post.

Letter to Your Future Self
I did this once, but it was very situation specific. I had just met someone I was falling for and decided to write myself a letter to open in a few years. I haven’t hit that mark yet, but I think about it every so often. I plan on writing a letter relatively soon and taking a different approach on things.

Journal For Self Care
I love me some journals. Hell, I’ll buy journals for the hell of it, knowing full and well that I have no use for it just yet. I’m a writer at heart and I was always one to write by hand, so physical journals mean a lot to me.
Fortunately, there are many of self care journal prompts out there to help you start keeping your mental health in check.

Ornament that Represents Something About You
If you’re big on Christmas and like ornaments, you can create or find an ornament to buy that you feel represents you. What I mean by this, is not your generic ornament that you find in most stores. I want you to look deep into yourself (maybe start with some of those journaling prompts, eh?) and find an ornament that “speaks” to you or you feel can represent you the best.
We all have ornaments that are generic or christmas-y, but if you want things to be a bit more personal, finding an ornament that’s personal to you is the best thing to do.
I’m not big on Christmas trees (and I’m allergic to the real ones) so I won’t be getting myself an ornament, but I might look into it for a special someone later on.
